Mark Allen to release album on RockIt Records

Mark Allen is excited to announce he has reached an agreement with RockIt Records; making him the most recent addition to their artist roster. He is scheduled to start recording with producer and engineer TJ Oman in early November. The label has tentative plans to release a full length album in 2012.

This news comes on the heels of Allen’s announcement that My Mourning Belle has disbanded. He felt it was necessary to separate from his previous moniker in order to venture into a new creative direction. Moving forward, he will write and perform as a solo artist.

More news about Allen’s new musical path is forthcoming. In the meantime, check out his Tumblr blog for all the latest news and info, including updates from the studio!

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end

After a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to dissolve My Mourning Belle. The last five years have been the best of my music career to date. Under the MMB moniker: I released an EP (A Place You Hope to Find), toured both regionally and nationally, and I started recording a full length album. During that time, I’ve seen myself grow as a person, musician and performer. I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone I’ve worked with or played with, and a very special thank you to the fans who have been along for the ride. I love you all!

Moving forward, I want to be clear that the end of MMB does not mark the end of my music career. I will continue to make music, I’ll just be working under a different name and will be moving in a new musical direction. I have some exciting news that I’ll be announcing in the near future! In the meantime, I ask for your patience and continued support.

Milwaukee Show Announced

Mark Allen of My Mourning Belle will perform an acoustic set in Milwaukee at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on Friday, July 22. Also performing will be Blue, Seriously and Calico. Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9:30pm. Please be prompt as My Mourning Belle is the opening act!

An update from the studio…

STUDIO UPDATE: Mark Allen and producer Aaron Moore have finished tracking five songs for the new MMB album. They are currently on a break as Moore is taking time to focus on his own album and Allen is enjoying time with his newborn baby boy! Though life circumstances may delay their progress, Mark and Aaron plan to continue their collaboration later this year. Keep your eyes and ears open for more new music! It will be worth the wait!

SIDE PROJECT: In addition to writing and recording the new MMB album, Mark Allen is working on an album of instrumental music. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Brian Eno, Moby and Sigur Ros, this project will combine elements of electronica and ambient music. Stay tuned as Allen will be posting some of this music as soon as its complete!
